RANDOM VIDEOS FROM THE WEB ABOUT THE VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE EXPERIENCE:

ABOVE: AKUNA SHIP IN RESCUE MISSION IN THE SOUTH CHINA SEA, JULY 12, 1981
July 12, 1981 | Rescuing Mission of Vietnamese Boat People in the South China Sea by the SS Akuna, with 58-year-old Colonel Jack Bailey and 19 crew members, including a 30-year-old doctor named Patrick, a French doctor named Allen Phillips, and another French Colonel. Dad believed Colonel Jack Bailey was the same captain of this AKuna ship which rescued Dad and 67 other Vietnamese boat people 21 months earlier, on April 14, 1979, in the Gulf of Thailand.

HOW THIS VIDEO WAS DISCOVERED ON THE WEB 29 YEARS LATER:
Dad's Facebook friend, Bernard Macdougall, found this video on the Internet and shared with Dad on July 1, 2010. Mr. Macdougall, currently living in Brisbane, Australia, is a former volunteer helping Vietnamese boat refugees in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He took many photographs of the Akuna vessel during its mission to rescue the Vietnamese boat people in the South China Sea.

ABOVE VIDEO: UNCLE BOB AND HIS VIETNAMESE CHILDREN
'Uncle Bob and his Vietnamese Children' is a documentary film about a Canadian man, Robert Sargent, and his volunteer efforts to help settle the Vietnamese boat refugees in Toronto during the late seventies to early eighties. This film is part of director Sue Chun's Canadian Multicultural Heritage series for Jane-Finch.com.

Below is a great video about a group of former Vietnamese boat refugees having a 30-year Reunion. The video has interesting visual clips, photographs, personal stories about their dangerous journey in the South China Sea and the cultural shocks of staring a new life in England.
